There are many appraisal companies that will take your money and give you an appraisal of a domains value. These appraisals are all worthless if your goal is to develop a new unique business name.

MOST Appraisals are only good if you are a domain investor, a person looking to buy a domain and resell it without ever developing a business around that name.

If you are looking to develop a new unique business name then an appraisal is a waste of your money.

All appraisals I have see are not really domain appraisals, but either website or existing business appraisals.

They analyze how much traffic the site gets as the primary factor. This is useless for you trying to find something that will make your business, product or service stand out from the crowd.

YOUR BEST CHOICE FOR A NAME IS SOMETHING THAT CANNOT BE FOUND ANYWHERE ON THE INTERNET.

But most appraisal companies would value a name like this at zero $.

You are looking to develop a business selling dogs. You find a domain name worth $100,000 appraised value selling for only $10,000. The name of the website is cars.com, if you buy this website then you just became a domain investor. Because cars.com is not going to sell you any dogs. A name like 70dogs.com though not great would add more value to your dog business than cars.com would.

There were only 9 results on Google for the quoted term "Dawgs Friend" when I searched.

That means you will almost instantly get first spot on all major search engines for the term "Dawgs Friend"

The words relate to the dog business and are short and easy enough for people to remember.

This was a quickie for an example only. For a name we will be using it takes hours, days even weeks of research to come up with the perfect name we that feel will achieve the desired results of making sales of our new business or product.

Domain value is how much will that name help your business in the future.

If anything you might want to use the automated appraisals to find out which names are worth less.

Most automated appraisals use keyword usage and cost per click to calculate their domain value. Higher the demand of the keyword phrase, the higher the domain value is per automated appraisals. This again might be a good tool for an investor but useless to you as a new startup business.

• HOW DOES THE NAME SOUND, is it catchy, does it relate to your business
• DOES IT CONVEY THE IMAGE YOU WANT YOUR CUSTOMERS TO GET
• IS IT SHORT
• IS IT EASY TO REMEMBER
• PHONE TEST, CAN YOU TELL SOMEONE VERBALY AND THEY UNDERSTAND
• HOW MUCH HAVE SIMILIAR NAMES SOLD FOR
• WILL YOUR AUDIENCE LIKE IT
• DOES IT HAVE KEYWORDS, this could be a plus or a minus
• DO YOU LIKE IT
